Νοσταλγια (Nostalgia)
Νοσταλγία is a mixed-media visual artwork. The title, derived from the Greek word for "nostalgia", sets the tone for the piece, which portrays an anthropomorphic figure - somewhere between a ghost and a scarecrow - both haunting and wounded. The work originated from a sketch the artist created years ago while living abroad. Forgotten for some time, the sketch resurfaced in 2024 and was used as the basis for a digital postproduction process that ultimately led to this artwork.
The intention behind Νοσταλγία is to reflect and visualize the complex emotional experience of nostalgia, particularly as it is felt by migrants. The identity shaped by migration is seen as a double-edged coin: on one side, the longing for the past and the place left behind; on the other, the hope and potential of the new environment. This artwork tries to depict this sentimental dichotomy.
