Places for Daydreaming
The main motif in this monotype drawing is a series of intertwined and interrupted staircases, inspired both by objects observed in physical spaces and by metaphors of crossing, traveling, and overcoming. For the artist, the staircases - understood as liminal spaces - became more significant than the spaces they connect. Their origins and destinations were of little importance; what mattered was their interconnectedness, which formed a tense, maze-like structure reflecting the artist's interest in storytelling through visual means.
This piece is part of a larger series conceived as a way to visualize memory - exploring how to recall, imagine, or transcribe places once visited or inhabited. The specific aim of this monotype drawing was to create an open, visually narrative structure, drawing on stream-of-consciousness techniques and loosely based on both real and imagined locations.
