Resistance
Resistance is a powerful visual narrative of solidarity and defiance, captured at the castle of Ioannina during a gathering against the war in Palestine. Four figures, dressed in dark clothing, stand resolutely atop the ancient fortress walls, raising smoke flares that form the colors of the Palestinian flag – red, green, white, and black. Against a heavy, gray sky, the smoke billows dynamically, like a cry of protest that transcends space and time.
The photograph draws its strength from the tension of contrasts. The static, historical fortress collides with the fluidity of the smoke, while the silent silhouettes of the individuals become voices of resistance. Though their identities remain unknown, they represent a collective body – a generation that refuses to remain indifferent in the face of injustice.
Resistance directly engages with the central question of the 'Living Without Leaving' exhibition – what does it mean to stay, to leave, or to return? The image proposes a fourth choice: to resist. Staying is not passivity; it is action. The smoke becomes a symbol of communication, an act of visibility and struggle, reminding us that solidarity knows no borders. In a world where identity is often contested and freedom is under threat, Resistance asserts that not leaving does not mean remaining silent. It means staying and fighting.
