The Tram Girl

Artist: Hana Kazić , Bosnia Herzegovina
Description:

A young woman sits alone in a tram, her gaze lost beyond the rain-smeared window. Outside, the city dissolves into streaks of water and light, a blurred landscape of damp streets and shadowed buildings. The black-and-white palette deepens the melancholy, turning the scene into a quiet meditation on uncertainty and longing.

She is here, yet her thoughts drift elsewhere - caught between the comfort of the familiar and the pull of the unknown. The future, like the view before her, is obscured, and distorted by circumstance. The weight of her homeland lingers in the reflection on the glass, a silent reminder that staying and leaving are acts of sacrifice.

The image was minimally edited, with only lens distortion corrected to straighten the lines. Using the rule of thirds, the girl is placed in the center, creating a composition from her viewpoint, looking out towards the street.
